Dougherty Arts Center

1110 Barton Springs Road, Austin, TX 78704

Opening Reception : Saturday October 12, 2019   5-7 pm

Exhibit Dates : October 12-November 9, 2019

This series not only depicts individuals, but taken as a whole, reflects the support, generosity, and safety I have found within the queer community.

Through these works, I channel the vibrancy, light, shadow, power, and vulnerability of this community that sometimes fades into the background, but at other times unapologetically demands our attention.

In a collection of new works, "Women of West" brings together the talent, and drive of five female Austin artists.  Showing at Julie Ahmad's modern home and studio.

Five featured artists: Ayla Erdener, Julie Ahmad, Billie Claire, Kristin Moore, and Lys Santamaria. Working in a variety of mediums, Erdener's work explores color and narrative.  Her pieces are vibrant, cheerful and examine the journey towards self discovery.  Ahmad's intuitively painted abstracts explore patience and trust through her enlightening process. Claire's vividly illustrated designs and drawings make a memorable mark on the viewer.  Examining the landscapes of Austin, LA, and in-between, Moore's work takes you on a journey through nostalgia. Santamaria incorporates ancient techniques into her hand beaded work to create non-traditional pieces that are simple, yet intricate.

The exhibition will include complimentary libations, snacks, and all around good vibes.
